“Music saved me.”

So says artist Nick Faulconer, whose song-a-day writing habit, hundreds of gigs, writing awards, and thousands of followers and streams are accomplishments in the music industry—but not more important to him than music’s role in life.

“When I was 18, I didn't know what to do with my life,” says Faulconer. “My guitar brought me out of my shell, onto a stage, and back to a better place. Now my mission is for my music to raise awareness for mental health because it’s music that helped repair my own mental health.”

Faulconer’s recent release “Santa Monica” showcases his talent as songwriter, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and indie producer. (Available on Spotify, Apple Music, and all major platforms).

“Santa Monica’s” organic sound belies the authentic conflict in the song’s lyrics and sets the stage for Faulconer’s next releases, which will include stories of mental health, life journeys, and relationships.

Faulconer has come a long way since he started busking at age 12, playing music on the street in Charlottesville VA for tips, not far from where Dave Matthews used to play at Millers. By 21, he had used tips and gig money to build his own recording studio, where he produces his music.

Back when he was playing on the street with a guitar bigger than he was, Faulconer’s mom had to hang around to make sure his tips didn’t get stolen out of his guitar case in the middle of crowds that gathered. He got his first live radio appearance after a producer stopped to listen, and he got his first gig from someone who heard him play on the street.

Today Faulconer’s music reflects a blend of influences from Ed Sheeran, Lauv, and John Mayer.  His music has a connection to the vulnerability and truth born from those years of busking.

Faulconer enjoys his DIY work in the studio he built because he can personally create his songs for listeners, recording and producing them exactly as he hears them in his head, fully orchestrated.

Then he sits down with a cup of coffee to livestream to his “music family,” sharing new songs and covers with friends, fellow musicians, and fans around the world. Building that community is something Faulconer takes seriously.

In 2017, Faulconer released his first acoustic demo EP Untested, followed by his single “Bruise”, his EP Closure, and his latest single, “Santa Monica.”

Faulconer has won multiple songwriting awards from the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest. Follow him on Facebook, Instagram and at NickFaulconer.com.
